Centre allows September salary, pension disbursement on Sept 25 ahead of proposed three-day bank strike

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) The Centre has decided that the salary and wages of all Central government employees for September 2026 may be drawn and disbursed on September 25, in view of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30 and the likelihood of disruption in banking transactions during the period.
The decision covers Central government offices, including Defence, Posts and Telecommunications, according to an office memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance's Department of Expenditure on September 23.
The memorandum referred to a Department of Financial Services office memorandum dated September 21, which stated that a three-day nationwide bank strike had been proposed from September 28 to September 30 and that banking transactions were likely to be disrupted during the period. The wages for September 2026 of industrial employees of the Central government may also be disbursed in advance on September 25.
Similarly, the September pension of all Central government pensioners may be disbursed by banks and Pay and Accounts Offices on September 25, the memorandum said.
The government said the salary, wages and pension disbursed in advance would be treated as advance payments and would be subject to adjustment after the full month's salary, wages or pension of each employee or pensioner is determined.
Any adjustment, if required, would be made without exception from the salary or wages for October 2026, it said.
The memorandum said that as the strike period coincides with the closing days of the current quarter, payments and other banking transactions scheduled towards the end of September may also be processed in advance, wherever feasible, to avoid delays and disruptions.
The concerned ministries and departments have been asked to bring the instructions to the notice of their offices for necessary action immediately.
The Reserve Bank of India has also been requested to bring the instructions to the notice of all paying branches of all banks for necessary action.
